Misconceptions About Reiki
Reiki can’t be done if you are religious
Reiki does not belong to any religious group and does not require you to believe in any certain thing or follow any certain religion in order to receive. Reiki is simply universal life force energy.
Reiki is just “placebo effect”
Reiki and other forms have energetic healing have been around for centuries. As we now “catch up” in the modern world to the old teachings and knowledge, more and more studies are being done on energy healing and other such things such as the meridian points in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I firmly believe that within the next ten years, a greater emphasis will be placed on the necessity of energetics for good health in all capacities.
Reiki practitioners have supernatural power
Reiki practitioners are regular people acting as conduits of universal life force energy. Anyone can learn and develop reiki skills and be initiated into a reiki lineage.
Reiki can’t help physical ailments or reiki can’t help emotional/mental ailments
Reiki works on the energetic body. All physical ailments manifest only after the emotional/mental component has not been able to heal or has been ignored. Reiki works on the energetic level to help heal emotion and mental ailments before they manifest as physical ailments. Of course, reiki can also help with physical ailments, too.
All Hallow's Eve Rituals
No matter what religion or type of spiritual practices you follow, all seem to have in common the thinning of the veil this time of year. This means that our ancestors and loved ones that have passed on are closer than usual. The gods or deities that we believe in are more accessible. This opens up the channel for communication and ritual.
If you would like to create an altar to connect with and honour your ancestors and loved ones, it is easy to do so. Collect photographs, family heirlooms and other objects that connect to your loved ones or even pets. Collect photographs, heirlooms, and mementos of family members, friends, or beloved pets. Set them up in your altar along with some candles. Present an offering such as food or a gift. Bring in elements of nature, specifically for this time of year - root vegetables, leaves, etc. Light your candles and set your intention for the ceremony. This could be to connect with your loved ones or to receive specific guidance from them. Sit quietly in meditation and be sure to express gratitude your loved ones and spirits guides. Take time to journal afterwards and hold on to any messages or guidance that comes through.

Meditation for Self-Worth
Hi everyone,
Here is a short meditation to remember your worth. You can take up space. You are loved. And you are Love itself.
I Caught An Orb On Camera <3
I was recording meditations and when editing I discovered that an orb had popped in to say hello. Of course Flokie had known all along….
This is spirit energy. And it brings me joy and comfort to know that my guides are with me at all times. Even when filming meditations for you!

One Minute Meditation
Level 3 Baby!
I’m elated to say that I have been initiated into my “master” level of reiki, level 3. I am uncomfortable with the term master as I feel the initiation is merely a stepping stone and the start of an abundance of learning to come. Having said that, this level allows me to use more reiki symbols to facilitate a most healing session for you.
Embrace & Fulfill

“Magick happens when you step into who you truly are and embrace that which fulfills your soul” - Dacha Avelin
I once thought I was many different things. And I once thought that I had to be many different things. Today, I just am. With each new day I find a deeper authenticity and truth to myself - the core of my being.
I used to make decisions based on what others wanted or needed and sacrificed myself in the process. It is a very damaging thing to live this way. Only when you’re free of that can you really see the cost.
It’s okay to say no to whatever does not appeal to you and it is okay not to have a reason why. If you’re ever hesitating to make a decision, take a moment to ask what answer will fulfill your soul. When you learn to set boundaries, saying no can feel like a weight lifted off of your shoulders, or a breath of fresh air.
It is so important to establish what you need in this life to be happy. If you find yourself saying yes to every social engagement invitation you receive and then wishing you were home the entire time you’re out, it is time to set a boundary. Maybe one or two social outings per week is your limit for your own peace and happiness.
If your job has turned into a 24/7 affair, establish a time period in the evening where you shut off your phone and ignore your e-mails. Do something for yourself instead - take a walk, a bath, get some movement or spend time with a friend.
If your partner is demanding too much from you, let them know and discuss setting some boundaries. This can be a very hard topic to discuss but you deserve to honour your truth.
By starting to set boundaries, you honour your own Self. Doing this allows you to step into the light of your own life - right where you should be! You will begin to see that by serving yourself, you are actually better serving others around you, too. When your own light grows brighter, you illuminate the world around you.
The Egg
You were on your way home when you died.
It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.
And that’s when you met me.
“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”
There are a lot of different feelings coming up in the world right now. I have actually felt quite guilty for feeling so happy during the pandemic. But then I realized that I am the Universe and the Universe is me. The Universe is everyone. So my feelings are an integral part of it, despite someone else’s discomfort or sadness. I will feel that, too, at some point. We are all One. My happiness lifts the collective soul. So I will let try to let myself feel each ounce of juicy, sweet, joy that I can. And one day, if I am not so happy, I will let the joy of others lift me. We all feel it all - because we are all that is.
Thank you to my very best friend for sharing this little read with me the other day:
“You were on your way home when you died.
“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.
“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”
“Yup,” I said.
“I… I died?”
“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.
You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”
“More or less,” I said.
“Are you god?” You asked.
“Yup,” I replied. “I’m God.”
“My kids… my wife,” you said.
“What about them?”
“Will they be all right?”
“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “You just died and your main concern is for your family. That’s good stuff right there.”
You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.
“Don’t worry,” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”
“Oh,” you said. “So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”
“Neither,” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”
“Ah,” you said. “So the Hindus were right,”
“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “Walk with me.”
You followed along as we strode through the void. “Where are we going?”
“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”
“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”
“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”
I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.
“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”
“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”
“Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”
“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”
“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from.”
“Where you come from?” You said.
“Oh sure,” I explained “I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”
“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”
“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know it’s happening.”
“So what’s the point of it all?”
“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”
“Well it’s a reasonable question,” you persisted.
I looked you in the eye. “The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature.”
“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”
“No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”
“Just me? What about everyone else?”
“There is no one else,” I said. “In this universe, there’s just you and me.”
You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on earth…”
“All you. Different incarnations of you.”
“Wait. I’m everyone!?”
“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.
“I’m every human being who ever lived?”
“Or who will ever live, yes.”
“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”
“And you’re John Wilkes Booth, too,” I added.
“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.
“And you’re the millions he killed.”
“I’m Jesus?”
“And you’re everyone who followed him.”
You fell silent.
“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.”
You thought for a long time.
“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”
“Because someday, you will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”
“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”
“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”
“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”
“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”
And I sent you on your way.”
Earth Day
“When the blood in your veins returns to the sea, and the earth in your bones returns to the ground, perhaps then you will remember that this land does not belong to you, it is you who belong to the land."
“When the blood in your veins returns to the sea, and the earth in your bones returns to the ground, perhaps then you will remember that this land does not belong to you, it is you who belong to the land."
Yesterday was Earth Day. I went for a nice walk in the rain with my pup. I spent a lot of time throughout the day reflecting on how lucky I am to have seen so much of the world already. I am glad Mother Earth is getting this time to rest. She deserves it.
Sweet Darkness
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will be your womb
tonight.
When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone,
no part of the world can find you.
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will be your womb
tonight.
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.
“Sweet Darkness” by David Whyte
I love these words by David Whyte. I have always associated this poem with the “dark night of the soul” but I think some may also find it appropriate for the world’s current circumstances. We have all been forced to slow down or stop, to distance ourselves from others or to be alone. Routine and excess have been stripped from us.
With the egocentricity of our society, I do worry that this abrupt deviation into a more soul-focused lifestyle caused by coronavirus could potentially create some dark nights. On the plus side, I do see it causing a collective raising of frequency which I LOVE! The darkness always brings the light!
I would recommend using the situation to reflect and learn and instead of focusing on all of the things you could or should be doing, you can really refine and define the things you want and need to be doing most. Though I am very much looking forward to things returning to “normal”, I still love my life in “quarantine” and have found it easy to focus on the positives. i know that is not the case for everyone.
We all have things that fill us with a fiery passion and make us feel alive and we all have people (friends, family, significant others) who allow us to be our most authentic expression of self around them. Someday soon, we will have a new sense of normal and now is the time to decide what and who we want to include in that new normal.
For myself, I have been able to re-ignite my joy for cooking and baking. The forced time at home has allowed me to cook and bake more often and it’s also forced me to get creative and deal with lack. With ingredients constantly sold out at the grocery store it is hard to plan meals but I have enjoyed making what I can with what I have. It’s made me more aware of how much I one day long to have a large garden and grow my own food, with chickens laying eggs and all of that good stuff!
Having said that, I don’t think I will ever take for granted the experience of going to a restaurant or bar again. I miss the outside energy of people and being social, trying new foods and looking forward to Friday night drinks after a week of work!
I am also feeling very grateful for my reiki practice. I have had a friend reach out desperate for some reiki which I was happy to deliver through a distance session. Practicing reiki fills me with joy and the fact that I can use it not only on myself but in order to make others feel better and be their best self is amazing. I am so looking forward to returning to in-person sessions when this is over.
I’ve also been able to focus on how I want my holistic nutrition practice to look. I’m hoping that people will continue to use online means for their health needs as I would love to see clients for online consultations. I’ll also be starting up a couple of online programs with a focus on intuitive eating.
I’ve been able to spend extra time with my dog, Flokie. While I am at work, she is usually at doggy daycare or on an adventure walk with a dog walker. I’ve loved the extra time I get to spend with her and the weather has been so beautiful, it has been a pleasure to get those steps in every day.
I’ve been connecting with friends through Facetime and the odd social distance visit. The situation has brought me closer to some great people and I look forward to making the time to connect with them in person when this is over. I’ve heard many people talk of putting in increased effort into friendships and I look forward to seeing how that manifests. I think collectively we will have stronger and more meaningful social bonds which is awesome!
If anyone is interested in some extra support, I am offering distance reiki sessions. You can contact me by e-mail (koko@kokoskitchen.com) and I would be happy to connect. Reiki transcends space and time and a distance session is as effective as an in-person session.
How to Quarantine
Hi friends,
Today I thought I’d discuss some healthy ways to quarantine. As a bit of an introvert, the last two weeks have been okay for me, however I couldn’t have done it alone. I’m lucky to have an awesome “quaranteam” partner and three great roommates (and 3 dogs!) in my shared housing situation. I think it would be a lot more difficult alone. Nonetheless, I’m getting a bit stir-cray and would love to be able to go to a restaurant, a bar, or just basically ANYWHERE to get some socialization and outside energy.

I thought I would share some things that are keeping me sane during this insane time.
Working out - like I said yesterday, I have been taking classes by donation with my personal trainer, Mikala at “Worthy of Strength”. She is offering classes on Zoom for the time being and I am so sore (in a good way) even two days later. Ouchie wa waaaa. Check her out! The endorphins that flow with physical activity are so important for my mental health. I feel like a new person every time I complete a workout.
Getting fresh air - obviously I have a doggo who needs lots of walks but being able to get out with her and just breathe some fresh air is really important to me. I practice social distancing and have found that most other dog owners are respectful of this as well, for example, stepping off the trail to ensure that 6+ feet of distance is between passing walkers. If you don’t have a dog, just go step out onto your lawn in your bare feet and ground yourself. Take a few deep breaths and recognize that everything is going to be okay.
Learn - now is the perfect time to reflect on your life and expand your mind. Maybe you have been laid off or are working from home on limited hours. Why not look into some educational webinars, podcasts or books. What is something you have wanted to try for a long time but have always had the excuse of “not having enough time” to do? Try yoga, pick up your old guitar, teach your dog some new tricks, sew a mask, make some jewellery, learn a language! I have never seen so much content creation - live videos and tutorials in EVERYTHING are absolutely abundant. Take advantage of it.
Eat healthy - I will be the first one to admit that my diet has taken a turn for the worse during these last few weeks. If you’re able to get to the grocery store, pick up some produce! Have something fresh! I feel so much better after a green smoothie or big salad. By all means, treat yourself to some goddamn pizza (I sure have….) but maybe not every day. By nourishing your guts, you nourish your soul.
Reiki - these are HEAVY times for the world as a collective and each individual. I will soon be offering distance sessions for those who would like some energetic work. Even after treating myself, I felt incredibly relaxed and renewed. I would love to be able to offer that feeling to you, my clients. By focusing on your own energetic output, you assist the world during this collective raising of frequency.
Be a lunatic - this one comes easy to me but in all seriousness, it’s important. We need to take the time to allow ourselves to be silly and laugh. Return to your inner child and find your sense of play. Do not let any one tell you that this is immature, or not appropriate with the world in this state. It is a sign of spiritual evolution to be able to view the world with a child-like sense of wonder. I have shared endless laughs over the last couple of weeks from playing boardgames with my roommates to practicing stupid TikTok dance videos and singing old 90s songs.
I hope you are all taking good care and please reach out if you have any questions or need anything. I am here for you!

Peace & Panic
I know I’m not alone when I’m feeling alllllll of the feelings lately. This pandemic has turned the world upside-down and the uncertainty and fear is palpable. Take time to ground yourselves, practice connecting to your breath, and stay active. The endorphins from exercise have been a huge help for me.

.
On the other end of the spectrum, I feel very connected in some ways. I’m more grateful than ever for my friends and family and feel a collective increase in frequency as a response to the entire world experiencing this together. What are you doing that makes you feel well and good during these trying times!?
.
Stay safe, and eat some pizza!! 🍕✌️
Remedy
Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it.
Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it. You consider yourself a small body, but within you is enfolded the entire Universe. What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.

Outgrow And Depart
You must allow yourself to outgrow and depart from certain eras of your life
